What is a digital footprint?

Your digital footprint is the trace you leave behind every time you go online. Effectively it defines your online reputation.


Why is it important?

It's important to know what your footprint looks like so you can make sure the image you portray online is consistent with how you would like to be seen.

In a 2018 study in the US, more than half of employers found social media content that caused them not to hire a candidate, as well as 7 in 10 declaring their use of social networking sites to research candidates ahead of an interview (CareerBuilder, 2018).
