Joanna has a background in teaching in different educational contexts both in the UK and abroad, and has a keen interest in developing literacy in academic contexts, as well as English for Academic Purposes (EAP) curricula and teacher education. Joanna actively contributes to the development and provision of EAP modules for levels 3 and 4.
One area of current research interest is developing literacy for Foundation Year / Level 3 students, which would provide insights into the literary and linguistic challenges faced by students when attempting to read academic texts and report on research, and explore possible means of overcoming these. This could in turn, help them engage more effectively in the academic environment.
Joanna’s main teaching interest is genre- and register-based language analysis and application, including subject-specific language.
Member of the BALEAP, the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes.
